Got Goals?

by David D. Holland

You don’t have to be a youngster to have goals. You can be 40, 50, 60, 70+, and still have a dream that you want to make come true. Are your goals just a bunch of loose ideas that you contemplate from time to time? If so, guess what? They will probably always stay in a state of limbo! Here are a few things you can do to help make your goals a reality.

Holland FinancialBe Specific: You need to become crystal clear on your goals. Narrow them down; iron-out the details. “I want to be rich” is not a clear objective. “I love animals, and since there’s only one boarding facility in the area, I’d like to start a kennel to serve my town and 4-legged friends.” That’s a stream of thought that’s moving in the right direction!

Be Passionate: This is key. Love what you want. Don’t set out to be a professional ice skater if you hate sore muscles, long practice sessions and performing in public. You probably won’t excel, nor reach your goal of becoming a famous U.S. Men’s/Women’s Champion. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but for most people, loving the journey to the goal will get them there faster and with far less pain and/or discomfort.

Be Consistent: Take a step toward your goal every day. It doesn’t have to be a big step; any step that moves you forward will work! Spend a small amount of time each day focused on, and working towards, the goal. Just five minutes can make a huge impact over time. The consistency of your actions is what can eventually bring you the success you are seeking. You might jot a note or two each morning asking yourself, “What can I do today to work towards my goal?” Make the answer your priority.

I share all this with you because I’ve seen how well this approach has worked in my own business, and I want you to reach your personal (and financial) goals, as well. Today, I’m excited to announce the next step in bringing our PlanStronger™ message to the community – PlanStronger™ TV, which will begin airing on WDSC Channel 15 in January. Over time, we have taken deliberate steps to reach this goal, including the production of the PlanStronger™ radio show, newspaper columns, e-newsletters, and website videos. All the while, I was doing what I loved, helping people plan for their futures. Now, there will be yet another way to help people who need financial guidance. I hope you will join us starting in January!
